Salem
I adopted Salem (then known as Eldon) from the HSGD in 2007. I had only had one cat all of my life; a black cat named Blackie. I had Blackie from when I was in kindergarten until the summer after I graduated from college. My heart was broken when Blackie died; but he instilled in me a love for black cats. I waited 2 years until I got a place of my own to adopt again and let the sadness of Blackie passing away heal. My sister took me to the HSGD and I immediately saw a little black kitten in the cage by the door. I took him to the play room where he climbed over me, purred, and played with a string. The next week Salem came home with me. I have never had a cat as cuddily and with such personality. He keeps me laughing and comforts me when I am sad. I cannot imagine life without my Salem!
Peanut
I have had Peanut for about 3 years now. I adopted him as an adult dog from the Dayton Humane Society. He is a pug/beagle mix who was somewhat timid upon bringing him home. Within a few months, he opened up and turned out to be the most lovable, compassionate animal I have been around. He gets along well with other animals, children and enjoys taking naps and burrowing under blankets.
Upon adoption, they weren't sure how old Peanut was exactly. The vet thinks he is now about 9 years old. He comes with me to the office on a daily basis, and brings a positive and warm morale to the entire staff.
Working with the Dayton Humane Society was a very educating and plesant experience. The entire staff was incredibly helpful and provided exceptional care to each of the animals at their location. I feel blessed that I was able to adopt such a wonderful animal from their team.
